Our boiler failed late on Monday night (30th November). I called British Gas who provide boiler cover, and after 30 mins talking to a call centre, I was offered a visit in 2 weeks. Not great, and I knew they would trot out the "condemned boiler" routine, which could mean no heating until after Christmas.
A rang a number of local tradesmen, who were either too busy, or didn't want to know. Then I called Helpful Plumber. Martin arrived within 30 minutes, and diagnosed the problem. He offered me a repair option, and a new boiler option. No sales pressure, it was my choice. I opted for the new boiler

A shower pump we had prematurely seized after 6 months of use and we were advised by the manufacture that it required 22mm rather than 15mm pipework as part of the installation. Whether that was the exact reason for the failure we don't know. Helpful Plumber was contacted and a date for work was arranged within 3 days. The team of three arrived promptly and were throughly professional. The new pipework and shower pump (provided as a warranty replacement courtesy of Salamander) was installed without an issue. As the previous loft pipework had also been left without insulation by the previous plumber

After approving a quote from 'Helpful Plumber', I reached out to arrange a date for the works via SMS, this was met with silence and with no reply, upon calling a couple of times i was able to speak to someone who told me to ring back next week to arrange a date, and when i did i had the same message...to ring back next week, he also said on a different occasion he would call me back but this never transpired. Further SMS messages and calls/voicemails have fallen on deaf ears with no replies. It has now been over a month since the approval of quote with no answer or reply/update.

After a morning of unanswered calls and one rather rude response for help with my boiler I'd remembered I'd made a note of Martin's number.
After explaining the issue he very kindly offered to come round straight away as he was close by, while I appreciate this was a stroke of luck he didn't have to go out of his way for what was a relatively minor issue.
Took a look and carried out the work needed to solve the problem. Didn't leave until he'd put the boiler on to see it in action and check his work had paid off. Explained what we'd need to do next if the problem came back.
