Architect based in Carlisle, Cumbria, working mainly in North West England, with some projects further afield. I am particularly enthusiastic about simple, carefully thought out buildings and low energy consumption resulting not just from reliance on mechanical systems, but from good design. I have a friendly approach.

I enjoy listening to a clients' wishes for their project, and how they want to live or work in their property, then developing those aspirations into drawings for permissions and building from. I am working in my own practice established in 2013, based in Carlisle, and am keen to help people develop their ideas into the buildings they want to see.

Previously I was employed as a project architect in the Netherlands, Scotland and Carlisle in Cumbria since qualifying as an architect in 1999. I studied at the Edinburgh College of Art.

Sam Fletcher is an architect I have used for a number of schemes ranging from a 9 house development to a barn conversion and single house project over the last couple of years. I would recommend him strongly. He is prompt, reliable, efficient, well-informed and sympathetic. He does not impose his ideas over the requirements of his client and above all listens to what the latter wants, then translating those ideas into workable solutions.

The Design Process Report

I do an initial free visit to discuss your project. Following that meeting I will write a letter setting out my capped fees for each stage. Survey and draw the existing building if there is one, and the site. If it is a new build on an empty site I usually recommend getting a topographical survey done.

Other Past Projects Report

Ground Floor: Enlarged Kitchen / Dining Room, Utility Room, Shower Room and downstairs WC, store. First Floor: A Fourth Bedroom and additional storage. Externally permission for a large garage was also obtained as part of the same permission.
