A2d Architecture
Based in Sevenoaks, Kent, a2d architecture is a RIBA Chartered Practice and draws on their experience from a wide variety of past projects of differing scales, disciplines and resolution to deliver contemporary and unique design solutions to clients across the globe. Darren graduated from Birmingham School of Architecture in 1994 and moved back to Frankfurt to continue work on many varied retail, residential and commercial projects, including new concepts for Deutsche and Dresdner Banks, Sixt and Eurotel.

Returning to London in 1998, Darren worked for BDP (2 years) on various European shopping centers and Gensler (3 years), helping to set up their first central European satellite office in Amsterdam in 2001, notably working on workplace projects for AOL, Lehman Brothers, Global Centre and ABN AMRO.In 2003 Darren spent 2 years as in-house architect for Nike, helping to design and roll out 5 new retail concepts across Europe.

The Food, Art and Technology (FAT) Cultural Arts Centre is our response to the international competition to re-purpose a dis-used factory building in Bologna, Italy. FAT is both a place of work and a tourist destination, where art and theatre co-exist with urban fruit and vegetable gardens and market stalls, all under one roof, serviced by the latest innovative technological thinking.
Very rarely does a design remain unaltered throughout the process, but Mr. & Mrs. Cosgrove knew what they wanted and were very like-minded with our approach to design. Indeed our initial sketch idea, presented at the very first meeting, was built.
The Nokia retail programme ran from 2005 until 2013, during which time a2d architecture were appointed as the Retail Master Design Agency for Europe and Eurasia. A2d developed 5 major Nokia Retail Concepts : Flagship Stores, High Street Stores, Shop-in-Shop, Kiosk & Care Centres. We created comprehensive guidelines for each concept and helped deliver over 250 projects in 25 countries, notably throughout Russia and China.
Oculus is a semi-permanent, modular, free-standing, outdoor pavilion, designed to house additional exhibits in the river-side courtyard of The Lightbox Art Gallery, Woking, UK. The portable, timber, multi-use structure simultaneously combines paintings & sculptures, an amphi-theatre with retractable seating, sun-shading and an upper viewing gallery.
