Jam Architects
JAM Architects have been practicing for 8 years and the main partners John and Murdoch between them have over 30 years experience working in the residential sector. JAM currently specialize in all types of residential architecture, from small extensions and alterations to existing homes to new build dwellings and on to master-planning large developments.

The practice has a contemporary design style and we focus on creating dramatic spaces which make the most of available light to give our clients the living environment that they aspire to. Much of our existing housing stock in Scotland is not suited to modern family living and we have developed a variety of solutions to adapt and change our clients houses to provide a more open and connected environment.

We are comfortable working with all of the main housing forms that are commonly found across Scotland. Be it a mid-terrace house, a bungalow or an Edwardian villa we pride ourselves on developing intelligent solutions to our client's needs.
Services
John established JAM Architects in 2009 and has over 16 years experience, specialising in the residential sector. With a honours degree in Architectural Studies as well as a masters degree in Urban Design, he has a proven track record in delivering high quality bespoke home designs as well as masterplanning large residential developments for some of the UK's largest house builders.
In order to get things started we offer a free one, hour consultation where we can assess the building or site and your design requirements. From this meeting we would develop an understanding of your project objectives, budget and aspirations and produce an initial project brief. From this meeting we would develop a competitive fee, reflective of the work being commissioned.
There are many different individuals who advertise as providing 'architectural services' who are not in fact qualified architects, often at vastly reduced prices. This can often be confusing to prospective clients setting out on a project. This section is intended to provide a basic understanding of the difference between an architect and others claiming to provide the same services.
Construction cost and overall budget for the project are not the same. The overall budget will include all professional and legal fees and expenses, the statutory charges for applications for planning consent and building warrants, a contingent sum for unforeseen events and other costs such as furniture, equipment, land acquisition, finance charges and VAT, in addition to the construction costs.
We hired JAM Architects to design a significant single story extension to our rural three bedroom bungalow, comprising of a small extension to the front in order to add an ensuite and a large extension to the rear, with a utility room and large open plan kitchen, dining area and family room and the existing kitchen becoming a fourth bedroom and WC.
