RJM Heritage Limited offers the full range of building services for older properties in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire. We specialise in using traditional lime mortars to maintain and improve historic buildings.

We use lime mortars extensively, in sympathy with the original construction, ensuring that any building we work on has been restored using the correct methods, materials and experience to ensure that historic buildings are maintained to the requisite standard. If you are refurbishing, or planning to have an extension on an older building, then RJM have a vast knowledge of the way to create the perfect addition to your property.

We can match all architectural features including stone, brick, plaster and render so that the extension or refurbishment maintains the character and charm of the original building. Lime mortar was the only material available to builders up to the turn of the 20th century. All bricks were laid with lime mortar, and all plasters and renders were made using lime.
Services
RJM Heritage Limited offer a complete heritage building service to owners of historic properties in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire, who wish to have their property refurbished using traditional methods and materials.
If your property is listed, then RJM Heritage has the necessary experience in historic buildings dating from Medieval to Victorian. Our approach to refurbishment, or the construction of a new extension, is different to a standard builder as we only work on buildings constructed solely with lime mortar.
Damp in Historic Buildings is largely caused by the application of modern, unsuitable materials such as cement render or pointing, gypsum based plasters, non-breathable paints and coatings. Damp can also be exacerbated by external ground level too high, poorly maintained guttering and chimneys, and intrusive vegetation are all reasons you can find damp problems in historic buildings.
A major issue we encounter when restoring older buildings is where lovely wooden floors have been removed, and replaced with a concrete floor which has been poured onto a non-breathable plastic or rubber membrane. This causes damp to be trapped under the cement and membrane. The damp will find its way into the brick walls and foundations and overload them with extra moisture that would never be present had the floor been allowed to breathe.
RJM Heritage has wide experience with regard to extending or refurbishing older properties. We take great pride in the knowledge and skills we have built up over many years, that are utilised on every project we undertake. We understand that matching brickwork, stonework or render to the exact architectural detail is of the highest importance, and can only be achieved through the application of traditional skills, methods and materials.
