All roofs need to be insulated - but whether you need a 'cold roof' or 'warm roof' depends on the U-values UK Building Control sets for your roof type. As a rule of thumb, 'cold roofs' are suitable for garages, workshops and roof sites where 'cold-bridging' is not an issue. Tapered warm roof insulation is primarily used for flat roofs, to ensure proper rainwater drainage.
Garage roofs, dormer windows, school roofs, flat roof extensions for your home - our pioneering liquid membrane system is seamless, hassle-free, and affordable, providing you with one of the best warranties in the business and a great looking, leak-free roof, installed quickly by an experienced, professional team.
This balcony terrace, intended to provide a cosy outdoor space, had seen better days - as the photographs show. To refurbish it and correct the problems that had caused the issues in the first place, we stripped everything back, then gradually layered in the polymer system to create a strong, jointless and seamless balcony that should last for many years to come.
Warm roofs are insulated roofs with a very low "U-value": 'U-value' measures the rate at which heat transfers over time through a building element (e.g., the roof). The better your roof retains heat, the lower your roof's U-value. Insulation is either placed between the roof deck and the weatherproofing (above, not below, the roof deck) or laid using decking with insulation pre-bonded to it.
This roof was an unusual project in terms of shape and design - constituting a wide strip of roofing surrounding a large central opening for a glass roof. The roofing area also needed to be meticulously tapered to the gutting to provide thorough drainage from the central area and avoid puddling, which could damage the roof structure and impair safety.
