Dan Neuteboom has been involved in top fruit for his entire career, from the age of 24 until his retirement. Though he was born in the Netherlands, he spent his entire working life in the UK, championing the cause of English home-grown fruit. Years of experience have put him and his team into a prime position for everything involved with the planning, planting and maintenance of fruit trees.
His desire to put his knowledge to the benefit of trees and tree-owners led to the creation of the Suffolk Fruit and Trees service, providing quality online information available for anyone interested in growing fruit trees in their garden. Dan currently provides advice and demonstrations for individuals, allotment associations and other organizations.

Dan Neuteboom, the author of all the material on this website, provides tailored advice on care, renovation and pruning of fruit trees, for gardeners, large estates, architects, estate agents, property developers and various government organizations, remotely, or with an on-site visit for locations in East Anglia.
Trees are wonderful companions. Trees have their own story to tell. All we need to do is to listen to them through observation by means of regular visits. It is a fallacy that trees look after themselves. In particular, the quality of the first five years of a fruit tree's life is instrumental to its capability to produce fruit on a regular basis.
The choice of which fruit tree varieties to plant in a garden orchard depends on many factors in addition to personal preferences. In addition to differences in climatic conditions in the various counties of the UK, there are many other factors which have a great influence on the health and well-being of the trees in order to do well.
There are many varieties of apple in the UK. An estimate as to the exact figure would be almost 3,000! Some are very good varieties, others less so. But they are all different. Knowing what to plant where, and ensuring that you will be able to enjoy the beauty of blossom and the satisfaction of being able to pick some good fruits at harvest time, are questions that are not always straightforward.
Weather factors affect site selection for fruit trees and the choice of varieties. For example, in the northern counties, the average temperatures during the growing season are 2 to 3 degrees lower when compared, by way of example, to East Anglia. This results in a shorter period in which the fruit has to mature and develop its full flavour.

I had some issues with an apple tree and a couple of pears that I was attempting to espallier in my small London garden - where space is at a premium. The assistance that Dan provided around planting care, soil additions, and pruning, proved invaluable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dan and Suffolk Fruit and Trees.

What Dan doesn't know about fruit trees, could be written on a pin head! He supplied us with a small orchard of fruit trees in 2005 and has cared for them ever since. I know that he has also advised at least two Peers of the realm and his expertise goes worldwide.
