In 1947 Norman Ferns left the army with no job to go to. So he went to his Aunt & Uncle for a loan of 50 to buy a lorry for the purpose of transporting textiles for the many mills in the area. This was a good earner, however Norman was frequently been asked if he would move the mill workers after work, soon realizing that this was a better proposition than transporting textiles.
The company holds a full International Operators Licence and both Barry Ferns and Daniel Ferns hold a certificate of professional competence from the Ministry of Transport. Every member of our team has undergone in-house training. Staff are trained in health and safety best practice, correct lifting methods, specialist packing techniques, customer relations and correct methods of loading removal vehicles.

In early April 2021 we used Norman Ferns moving services for the third time within 7 years. Every single time the service has been outstanding. They are extremely professional, extremely calm in what can be one of the most stressful events in life, and are always very polite. This time I chose not to use their packing service as I had the time to pack myself, but it took me a good 5 weeks to pack what they could pack in 2 days!! A VERY full 4 bedroom house. I’d definitely recommend letting them pack for you if you are short on time yourself. The move went more smoothly than I could have imagined

Residential house move: Dan and Ben were extremely efficient, accommodating and professional from start to finish, with a comprehensive video call before moving, which was reassuring and helped us prepare so moving day was as least stressful as possible. On moving day they worked tirelessly, in a friendly manner and with great patience. Nothing was too much trouble.

We used Norman Ferns today for our house move from Leek to Sheffield, and Dan and the guys were genuinely amazing throughout the entire process. They were more than happy to help with any requests we had or any help we needed. Everything was packed really well and very efficiently and the guys were really friendly. We had been through quite a lot of stress recently from the buying process, but these guys have made the moving part an absolute breeze! Worth every penny!
