Minimal maintenance or interference with the planting is the key principle. All maintenance practices disturb and stress the existing biota (plants and animals in the planting/habitat). Any maintenance practices should be done with as light a hand as possible to minimise disturbance and allow where ever possible the biota to regulate itself.
