Services
Each timber frame is individually designed and hand built in our workshop in Branscombe, East Devon using many traditional joint and peg techniques along with the best of modern methods of frame construction required to fulfil the criteria of planning and building control. We enjoy working closely with all our clients to ensure that you get as close to your original ideas as possible.
During the early years of the timber frame revival in Britain the best way to understand the techniques and skills involved in this ancient craft was through the restoration of the old buildings themselves. Along with the excellent information and research provided through the newly begun Carpenters Fellowship in the UK and the American Guild of Timber Framers.
Our joinery work is related to the timber frame buildings we design and construct, including doors, windows and stairs. We also carry out historic joinery which includes doors, windows and other joinery required for conservation works on listed buildings. Among the other unusual projects undertaken are included panelled rooms, beds, carved bookcases and, occasionally, other furniture as seen below.
Following an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery and 14 years working around Britain and Europe I began business as Oak Homes. Our first job was restoring parts of the entrance hall to Portmeirion in North Wales. The bizzare Italian style village built around architectural salvage by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925-1975 which featured as the backdrop to the cult 60's series 'The Prisoner'.
