An Arboriculturist is a specialist in the management of trees, providing expert opinion and advice to those with responsibility for land on which trees grow. Ben Riches holds the Level 6 Professional Diploma in Arboriculture (PD Arb), a vocational qualification equivalent to the academic BSc (Hons), and has been working full-time in arboriculture since 1998, operating within the rules and ethical standards of: The Arboricultural Association; Institute of Chartered Foresters and International Society of Arboriculture.

Specialist technical knowledge of arboriculture is gained through training and qualification.Thorough understanding and the ability to apply the technical knowledge comes through experience, for which there is no substitute. Knowledge is kept current by regular attendance at specialist seminars, conferences and study events while understanding is kept current by continuing to work in the practical side of arboriculture.
Services
Good quality trees on new build sites add a sense of maturity and can increase desirability. Tree retention may be a condition of Planning Consent or it may be that trees form an integral part of the layout design. Professional advice on what is likely to be practicable and what may cause problems for the tree will help avoid costly remedial works and unnecessary tree removal.
Trees are an essential part of our landscape and environment. Not only do they provide valuable habitats for all kinds of wildlife they are an important factor to in the management of soil erosion and flood. Their beauty can lift the spirits and is part of our historic heritage. Landowners have a legal duty of care to ensure their trees are healthy and pose no risk to those that come into contact with them.
Wind load plays a major part in tree failures.

A structurally sound building can tolerate wind speeds up to Gale Force 8 on the Beaufort Scale but damage begins to occur at Severe Gale 9. Depending on the target a comparison could be drawn and tree failures due to wind forces of Beaufort No 9 and above may be accepted as a tolerable risk in the same way that structural damage to buildings is accepted (buildings could be made ‘hurricane proof' but the additional costs and low risk out-weigh the apparent advantages).

This firm cannot be faulted so do not look elsewhere ! True qualified professionals that care about what they are doing. We are now on our 2nd job with Ben Riches. They only use the best equipment and put safety 1st. The effeciency has to be seen to be appreciated and frankly you would never know they had been and taken down a tree after they had left. Highly recommended.
