My work is all about restoring historic tiled floors biggest percentage is Victorian encaustic & geometric tiled floors and occasionally wall tile schemes again these are usually Victorian, however as floors are under constant wear & tear it is geometric & encaustic tiled floors that comprise our bread & butter work + mosaics oddly the type of floor that started it all features less now.
Originally I started out as a stone carver but a contract that had a badly damaged marble mosaic changed my life, it took me nearly 3 years to restore the marble mosaic floor and meant that I had cut almost a million cubes, my job changed and became a Tyler-mason a term that had gone out of use but was suited to my new line of work.
Before long I had travelled to other countries to restore mosaic floors but as I got older I specialised in Victorian encaustic & geometric tile restoration. My Co started in 1982 I believe that I have been restoring Victorian encaustic & geometric tiled floors longer than most.

Services
Our contracts have ranged from as small a one square metre to over twelve hundred square metres, however we pay as much attention to small projects as larger projects each job is important. We have restored mosaics in listed buildings in Belfast Harbour Commissioners and Victorian encaustic & geometric tiled floors in Grade 1 listed buildings in Churches plus many other contracts all over the UK & abroad.
New Victorian reproduction tiling or custom designed marble - stone - mosaic tiled floors or walls. See examples. We use tiles from various firms, if it is for Listed or Heritage work then usually it will be Craven Dunnill Jackfield as they manufacture tiles to original Victorian colours and imperial sizes.
Our Co has installed or produced mosaic or opus sectile tile schemes from individual pictures such as seahorses or lizards to 100 foot long scenes at a sports centre our work is diverse as are the places that have works fitted = British Rail station, Longleat, San Francisco, Vets Surgery, Churches, private homes, corporate foyers, restaurants, plus a few swimming pools.
Our co can clean & seal modern tiling as well as Victorian & Historic flooring also stone flooring & terracotta new or old. The floor doesn't need to be damaged to invest in our skills; however some modern tiled floors can't be repaired due to the high turnover of tiles & designs. Our system employs both a low rpm scrubbing machine & hand-cleaning and is carried out in such a way that the floors are cleaned sympathetically without damage.
