Today, some 120 years on, that vision has been more than realised; Shaws now enjoys, not only a national, but a worldwide reputation for the beauty, quality, craftsmanship and sheer practicality of our unique artisan products. We're immensely proud of our heritage, and the fact that our sinks are still handcrafted at our premises in the same quiet corner of North West England as they were when we first started out on Valentine's Day 1897.
A traditional English company that's been using the same time-honoured techniques for well over a century. When Arthur Gerald Shaw founded Shaws of Darwen way back in 1897, the local clay was brought to the factory at Waterside village, by horse and cart from the local coal mine, Belthorn Colliery, located in the rural heart of North West England.
With its inspired design and timeless appeal, a sink from our Original Collection makes the perfect, iconic focal point for any traditional styled kitchen. Traditional, beautiful and practical, these artisan fireclay sinks, with their original designs and details, are handcrafted, using age-old techniques, making them look and feel truly beautiful.
We've combined modern design and traditional craftsmanship to create a collection that will add timeless character and personality to the most contemporary of rooms. Choose from a wide variety of beautiful, inspired styles for the kitchen, which are beautifully proportioned with clean lines and tighter corners to perfectly suit contemporary spaces.
The elegant handcrafted sinks in this stunning collection, are beautifully designed and carefully proportioned to fit perfectly within modern-day kitchen spaces. Ideal for sole use, or to complement our Original and Contemporary Collection, these sinks are popular for installation in secondary preparation areas, such as kitchen island units.

I’ve purchased two Shaws of Darwin sinks, but unfortunately, the second one developed fine crazy paving cracks. After discussing with their customer services, they suggested it was a firing issue and may be covered on the Limited Lifetime warranty, but unfortunately it would not cover the extensive labour and tiling that would be needed to move the worktop and re-tile. It’s situations like that a limited lifetime warranty is effectively worthless, and a better quality product that does not develop faults would be preferred. Update: Even the free trinket holder sized sink that was supplied at

Excellent quality British made products let down by a distribution system that takes 3 days just to process an order for a rubber matt and then a delay caused by DHL who failed to collect. In the 21st Century a rubber matt that is in stock, should be able to be ordered one day and received the next, and if DHL let you down then stop using them and use a parcel company that value your business. Ordered on 15th June and expected to arrive on 28th June, item in stock, should have taken a couple of days. Shaws order processing needs a complete shake up to make it efficient to compete with other companies

We purchased an Entwistle sink to replace an old sink (more than 25 years) on which the glaze had worn away (not from Shaws). The new sink looks lovely, particularly the sculpted front.. Delivery and packaging were very smooth. It is, of course, too early to comment on durability (we did buy a 'Sink Grid' protector at the same time),. But top marks for aesthetics.
