At Marlborough Tiles, we transform humble objects into works of art. Think of wall and floor tiles and you're likely to imagine functional rectangles in busy areas like bathrooms, kitchens and halls. But for us a tile is where science meets art. Each one represents the sum total of experimentation, learning, technique and passion passed down for generations.
The story begins in the early 1930s when two schoolteachers, Sylvia Packard and Rosalind Ord, found that their mutual interest in painting ceramic tiles could earn them a living. In 1936 the Packard and Ord partnership, using the hallmark 'P&O', began production in Barnfield, Marlborough, specialising in commissions and giftware.

How I love Marlborough tiles! Their HQ shop is great where you can even meet the makers of the tiles and they take great pride and care with their product. They have *artists*, real proper artists, hand-decorating the illustrated tiles with gorgeous birds and botanical paintings. Those involve in the firing and coloration take great care and carry out many experiments to get it right. I adore their lustre tiles. They are so distinctive.
