Specialist Chimney Services was established in 1989, providing chimney solutions for domestic and commercial clients across the North East England ever since. We are experts in solving the problems that come from defective chimneys; lining chimneys; bringing chimneys back into use; performing Smoke Tests and installing multi-fuel heating appliances.
We are a licensed installer of FuranFlex Chimney Liners, EldfastCeramic Coatings, NACE Cast Insitu concrete chimney liners as well as stainless steel flexible liners. We work in occupied premises; homes, hotels, listed buildings and many other environments. Our aim is to minimise any disruption caused by our work - ensuring furniture and other fixtures and fittings are fully protected.
John Alderson is very experienced and knowledgeable. He cleared a blocked chimney flue and opened up the old chimney to create an inglenook hearth complete with a beautiful oak lintel, lined and insulated the chimney and installed a multi fuel stove. I have just recently had my chimney re-lined.

Services
We are a specialist company providing solutions for chimney and flue problems of all types. Whether you are having problems with smoke leaking into rooms; restoring an old building and re-opening disused chimneys; suffering from staining of chimney walls (inside or outside) or changing your fire to a modern multifuel appliance, we can provide the right solution for you.
We are able to offer this, the most traditional method of lining, using refractory concrete, clay or ceramic liners of the same type commonly used in new buildings. There are also some pumice liners designed specifically for relining. The chimney has to be opened at frequent intervals to insert the liners, essential if there are bends in the flue.
As an approved installation contractor with ELDFAST, we are able to offer one of the most recent developments in chimney relining. The system involves applying a ceramic type lining material that does not contain lime or cement and can, therefore withstand continuous exposure to extreme temperatures.
FuranFlex is based on a glass fibre reinforced thermosetting resin, which is as strong as steel when set, but has much better corrosion resistance than other chimney lining methods. It is extremely thin (circa 3mm), has no joints and is installed by factory trained engineers, providing the guaranteed solution for all lining applications.

We had a large alcove in our kitchen containing an old AGA which we wanted replacing with a log burner. John has done a fantastic job of restoring the old fireplace and fitting a log burner. The finish is absolutely perfect, and despite encountering lots of unforeseen hiccups along the way, he still took the time to complete it to the best standard possible, which is unusual in this day and age, as most workmen we encounter want to rush everything. We will definitely be using this company again for future projects and highly recommend them.

Had this company to repair my chimney what a waste of time. Wouldn’t give a date to start when he did come mixed some plaster put it around the fireplace what a mess, didn’t clean up afterwards then left with no idea when he would be back. If he didn’t want the job he should’ve said. Tried asking at the office to find out when he was coming back and was told nothing is wrote down. I have since got a professional company to do the job which I am delighted with

I can't fault this service. For something that could have been a real mess (4 floors 3 chimney beasts had to be accessed) this was a really professional job with minimal mess and disruption) really professional and respectful to my family and priority. Would highly recommend. If anybody has an old house this is the best way to restore chimney for real fires. Wish I'd done it years ago. A big thank you to John and the team.

John's technical advice and knowledge was excellent and reassuring from the outset.
The installation (a concrete flu/lining in a very old property) was completed within the time estimated and exactly as described.
John and his team were extremely well organised and very efficient, getting on with the job.
Inevitably, the work was messy (e.g. removing and replacing random building stones for access) but the team covered floors etc and cleaned thoroughly after completion.
We are very satisfied with the finished job.
