Abacus Stone Conservation specialises in work to ecclesiastical, historic and listed properties in and around Exeter, Devon & the South West. The business is based just outside Exeter and is owned and run by David Cornick. After completing a degree in Architecture, David pursued a career in stone masonry.
We undertake conservation repairs to a variety of parts of a building, from walls to fireplaces to windows. The approach to each repair whether an individual stone repair or castle wall is approached with a view to understanding as much as possible about the history and materials. Only then are sensitive repairs carried out to the highest standard.
A lime mortar repair or plastic repair can be used to repair damaged masonry rather than replacing the entire piece. A blend of sands and stone dusts are mixed with either lime putty or natural hydraulic lime. A variety of mortar samples are made to determine an ideal match. Mortar repairs are generally carried out on a small scale and are suitable for sheltered locations.

Report
We contracted Abacus Stone Conservation to repoint the front of our victorian terrace in Exeter and replace some damaged bricks. Was delighted with the results and the quality of the pointing finish and found them to always be friendly and really helpful with advice.
We have had many comments from passing neighbours enquiring about who did the repointing!
