Millar Howard Workshop
We work closely and collaboratively with clients to understand their requirements and then meet these in exciting, beautiful and imaginative ways. We find that many people don't fully understand what an architect actually does. We try and be as transparent as possible about the way we work - guiding you through the process step by step.

Every project and every client are different, meaning that the process is slightly different every time. We share what we have learnt on other projects and aim to bring people along with the process. At Millar Howard Workshop we are one of the first architecture practices in the country to extensively integrate virtual reality into our design process.

We can provide all our clients with a fully immersive, virtual reality tour of their proposed building. This gives them a true sense of the scale and proportion of the spaces. Buildings come about through collaboration and shared endeavor. Whether clients, employees, work experience students or other consultants we encourage collaborative working and highly value peoples expertise.
Services
We pride ourselves on our ability to take a complex set of requirements and turn these into an elegant building. Whether unlocking planning permissions for buildings on difficult sites or bringing together a complex group of building users. Creating a building is a collaborative effort. We have extensive experience of working in both small and large teams to deliver complex building projects.
We use a variety of drawing and visualisation techniques from hand sketches to virtual reality presentations. Buildings are a manifestation of their design and construction process. We believe that design and construction go hand in hand. Understanding what you can do with materials and the processes necessary to form them into a building are vital to achieving a great end product.
Perhaps only a few times in a lifetime does a book really get you. During lockdown the book 'Wilding', by Isabella Tree, really got me. Now I'm by no means a pioneer reader of the book. It's been around for a few years and clearly grabbed many others before me, but the reaction was visceral. Growing up on a farm in Zimbabwe, I was immersed in very active ecosystems and spent time in real wilderness landscapes.
Spring is undoubtedly here; buds, schools, our gardens, shops are all opening up.we're feeling energised and optimistic about the year ahead. The image (right), is a proposal for an extension to a barn conversion which considers the relationship between the dwelling, the views and the garden. We love this image and it's helping us think of sunny days ahead!
Many of us grew up in the Stroud Valleys and have a deep-rooted understanding and appreciation for the rural context we work in. Our culture is established on collaboration. We actively engage with each other and the development of our practice, driven by what we're passionate about allowing us to successfully foster meaningful relationships with our clients and drive our projects forward.
