The practice was established in 1938 by John Portess and Frederick Richardson and was originally located in Peterborough's Cathedral Square. The current practice consists of a multidisciplinary team, whose experience and ability is current and relevant to both traditional and design and build contracts.
Portess and Richardson have specialised in Healthcare for a number of years with extensive experience in care homes, dementia care, assisted living and more. We have won multiple awards for our projects, most recently Dunkirk Memorial House for the Royal British Legion for the Best Dementia Care Facility in 2015.
Portess and Richardson have an extensive and varied portfolio of experience with residential projects, having worked with developers for many years undertaking large flats and housing schemes, as well as large bespoke houses for private clients. The practice is able to provide full services including on site involvement as well as 3D Visualisations.

Having worked with Portess & Richardson architects on a house extension to my property, I would give them my highest personal recommendation having seen their most recent project to my extension. They have proved themselves as very efficient in their plan of action and were patient and constructive when listening to my ideas coming up with creative solutions to simple requests. Their attention to detail and consideration of all the other processes involved aside from design have not only sped up that stage but also has put me at ease with the administrative process that followed with the planning
