We salvage second-hand timber from across Somerset and turn it into beautiful, handmade furniture. We are a community interest company. All profit is reinvested so we can provide work-based training for people struggling with addiction, mental health issues and long-term unemployment. Reclaimed wood is full of character but those knots, holes and spots can be tricky to deal with.
Luckily, we have years (and years!) of experience. We've made all the mistakes so you don't have to. Everything we make is unique, and that's due to the nature of our materials. A lot of our wood comes from the construction industry, so we often find nail holes, saw marks, staining, stamp marks and weld spots. This all adds to the character and beauty of our furniture.

Services
The Wood Shop is run by Somerset Wood Recycling, a community interest company in Weston-super-Mare. We started back in 2006 when founder, Tristan Tudor, read an article about Brighton & Hove Wood Recycling and thought "hmm, we could do something like that in Weston". Having grown up in Weston-super Mare, Tristan was keen to help the community as well as the environment.
Quality bespoke furniture, built just how you want it, shouldn't be an unobtainable luxury. A table made from antique joists, scaffold plank shelving, an oak beam mantelpiece - let us know what you're dreaming of. Because Somerset Wood Recycling offer a bespoke service, we were able to specify exact measurements and materials used (lovely hairpin legs!) so the desk was exactly what we wanted.
Planning a spot of DIY? Come and visit us at The Wood Shop to choose reclaimed timber for your own projects. We source wood from across North Somerset. Most of the timber comes from local construction and manufacturing business, but some donations are from individuals too. We sometimes get fallen trees, bits of bowling alley, old church pews and even pieces of Weston's old pier!
Our wood is mainly from local manufacturing and construction businesses, but individuals can donate wood as well. Some of the wood has a great back story - we've even recycled bits of Weston-super-Mare's old pier! In addition we've more recently been able to source sustainable timber from local mills, wind-fallen trees we've milled ourselves and short lengths or odd sizes of quality joinery and furniture grade timber.

Best wood I ever got, showed my misses and it reminded her of the best wood she ever got (from her dad.) she said it was proper girthy wood. I disagreed and said my wood had more girth. So to solve it, she got her dad to show me his wood. Awesome wood for a man of his age.
(He got proper girthy wood.)
Still, lovely place. Nice wood. 😉
