Phidias Neo-Classical is very much a family business of Stonemasons based in Bristol. We have a long tradition as Stone Cutters, Stonemasons and Sculptors over many generations. Today three generations of the Dring family are still represented in the business. In fact, our historic family name "Dreng" is noted in the Records of Durham Priory under the reign of King Henry "The Builders of Churches", 1154 - 1189 uncanny really.
It seems a twist of fate that after all these centuries we are still following in the footsteps of our ancestors! Although we are very traditional in our approach, we have kept up with the pace of modern times, using the most high-tech machinery available, which is then complimented with our traditional, tried-and-tested techniques and skills.
We deliver projects from the most extravagant to more minimalist styles and pride ourselves on having worked on some of the most prestigious buildings of the past and present. Based in Bristol, Phidias is ideally placed to provide traditional stone, marble and granite masonry and sculpture services to any part of the United Kingdom, including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

Services
Stone floors are both traditional and practical. They have been used for centuries in different ways - to provide hard-wearing surfaces suitable for the working area of a house, through to highly decorative floors, at the top end of the spectrum, to show off the owner's wealth and status. We also create external stone floors, using the stone of your choice, for paths or driveways.
Many of Britain's finest houses are built of stone. It has always been the material of choice for building houses or other buildings, thanks to its durability and relatively easy availability. Traditionally, local stone has been used, which has given whole regions a recognisable look - the honeypot Cotswold villages, for example.
Using stonework in a garden can greatly enhance the look of a garden. Strategically placed arches, monuments, ponds or fountains can be used to draw the eye to a specific vista, which the garden's owner wants to highlight. Phidias will help advise you, where needed, on the most appropriate type of stone, marble or granite to use for whatever construction you are planning to have commissioned.
Bespoke designs can be commissioned in all shapes and sizes. Whether you want a marble side-table, a granite bathroom or kitchen, a sculpture, a pavilion for your garden, or even a whole stone-built house, Phidias are able to and will be delighted to help you bring the bespoke commission to life. Unlike many stonemasons, Phidias are able to provide you with all of the necessary services in-house.
Sculpture in stone is one of the master mason's finest arts and most rewarding skills. Seeing the end result of a block of stone being turned into a sculpture brings the stone to life. Each and every sculpture will have gone through a number of stages before it is handed over to the commissioning client.
