Energy Development
The Energy Development Co-operative Limited (solar-wind.co.uk) was established in 1997 and is based in Oulton Broad, Suffolk, UK. The EDC was founded to provide meaningful employment and increase awareness, education and the availability of solar and wind technologies. The organisation was formed as a Workers Co-operative to ensure democratic ownership, and was registered as a Limited company in 1998.

Starting from very humble beginnings, the company had to pull itself up by it's shoestrings for the first few years of it's existence. A small business start-up grant from Suffolk County Council and a loan from ICOF enabled the company to start trading. The business strategy was to target off-grid commercial power applications, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, service and support.

Over the next few years, slowly but surely, the client base grew into a diverse range of businesses. We now have some large commercial clients with whom we have been working for well over a decade. We continue to expand our range of services to ensure we offer the best possible support for our clients, and we provide a range of consultancy, site survey & system design services.
Services
Packages are generally dispatched within 2 days after receipt of payment and are shipped via DPD with tracking and dropped-off with signature. Shipping fees include handling and packing fees as well as postage costs. Handling fees are fixed, whereas transport fees vary according to total weight of the shipment.
To ensure maximum output from either a solar pv array, or for a wind turbine, correct siting is essential. The ideal location for a solar pv array is often simpler to establish than that of a wind turbine. We've compiled the following check-list of the main points to be considered when selecting a site.
With any off-grid power system, careful selection of the devices to be powered can massively reduce the size and cost of the system required to power them. Efficient devices often make all the difference to the viability of a project. To demonstate how dramatic these savings can be, listed below is a simplified comparison of two ways to acheive the same overall goal.
Please feel free to experiment with our NEW system sizing calculator. It is currently in Beta Testing Mode and the results should be carefully checked, as bugs probably exist. The calculator makes a few basic assumptions and will never be as comprehensive as having a system properly designed for you by an experienced off-grid power engineer.
Remote telemetry or data collection projects are often sited a distance away from the nearest mains supply. Off-grid solar or wind generated power offers a cost-effective remote power solution, capable of being deployed in the remotest of locations. Modern telemetry, RTU and data monitoring equipment is becoming increasingly efficient, requiring relatively small amounts of power to record and transmit data.
