Services
Norman & Underwood was founded in Leicester in 1825 and is one of the oldest family owned companies in the region. Originally specialising in general plumbing and glazing, the company has evolved to provide architectural and structural glazing, metal roofing and cladding, and building conservation services including leadwork and stained glass restoration.
Some years later, he was joined in partnership by his nephew John Underwood (1833 - 1901). Together, they grew the firm substantially, developing a merchant business for glass and plumbing materials and investing in processing plant for making mirrors, glass tabletops and shelves, leaded lights and stained glass windows.
Norman & Underwood is one of the UK's leading roofing contractors, undertaking both new build and restoration projects. Our work crowns a whole range of buildings here and overseas - from corporate headquarters and theatres to cathedrals and churches, private houses or even bus shelters. Norman & Underwood is the UK's largest and oldest manufacturer of traditional sand cast lead. Our craftsmen still produce lead sheet by hand using the same processes employed for hundreds of years. On restoration projects, it is vital to use traditional sand cast lead to match the existing roofing and cladding materials.
