Since its foundation in 1945, the London Children's Flower Society has given young school children, usually in primary schools but also in nursery and special needs schools, the opportunity to take an interest in horticulture. This activity enhances the national curriculum and research has shown that gardening has a huge range of benefits and can give children of all capabilities, a healthy and enjoyable life skill.
The Society currently organises 3 gardening competitions per year. For the Spring Bulb Competition we ask children to grow daffodils and hyacinths over the winter. In the summer the children grow flowers, herbs and vegetables.
Once the flowers and plants have grown we send out our team of volunteers to visit the schools (in March for the bulbs and July for the flowers, herbs and vegetables), to judge the displays and to award certificates to all the children who have participated. We also organise a School garden competition to coincide with the Summer Growing Competition.

Services
Founded in 1945 the London Flower Lovers' League, held its first competition for growing daffodil bulbs in 1948. The League's founder was Mrs Alice Street who became the first Chairman and remained in that position for 17 years. In 1967 the League became a registered charity and in 1974 the name was changed to the London Children's Flower Society.
The London Children's Flower Society has been running flower growing competitions for more than 70 years and with the current trend for gardening we are ideally placed to encourage school children to "have a go" and grow something. We aim to match the needs of the schools and enhance the requirements of the national curriculum.
Letters and forms will be posted/emailed to schools on our mailing list inviting them to enter the competition. Our judges will visit on a date convenient to you and award every child with a merit certificate plus a bronze, silver or gold sticker. Schools can win trophies and prizes, including garden tools sets, gardening vouchers, books and educational visits to places such as Kew Gardens.
Our Summer Gardening Competition allows children to grow flowers, herbs and vegetables from seed. The children have the opportunity to follow the natural process of germination, growth and production of flower or vegetable crop. We have changed our Flower Collection varieties to make sure they are Bee & Butterfly friendly, so please do help us to help our endangered pollinators!
In the summer we launched our 2018 Front Cover Competition, we invited school children across London to design the front cover of this year's Annual Report. The response was amazing and with nearly 350 entries to judge, we had a really difficult task of picking our winners. We invited the top three to attend to the Trophy ceremony in October to receive their prize from HRH the Countess of Wessex and Sir David Green QC.
