Owner and Director Mat studied Three-Dimensional Design at Plymouth University, graduating in 1994. He always aspired to one day becoming a designer and maker of wood-based products, and this dream has become a reality. The contents of this website shows only a small part of Mat's work over almost 20 years.
It shows pieces commissioned for both commercial and domestic purposes: from a reception desk to a kitchen, from sunloungers to tables. Translating a customer's ideas into a finished piece leads to the creation of unique items that can't be found on the High Street. Mat Askham aims to deliver handmade products that are simple in form, traditional in construction, yet contemporary in design.
We work mainly in hardwoods which are from managed sources, and also work with reclaimed softwoods. We also enjoy the challenges of making and combining different materials such as metals and glass. We are always happy to discuss any ideas with customers in the showroom or workshop, or in the comfort of your own home.
