Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is a non-native invasive species of plant. Since it was introduced into the UK as an ornamental garden plant in the mid-nineteenth century it has spread across the UK, particularly along watercourses, transport routes and infested waste areas. The plant can grow up three metres in one growing season, usually April to September.
Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) is the largest herbaceous plant found in the United Kingdom. It was introduced from the western Caucasus in the southwest of Russia in the early nineteenth century and has since spread throughout the UK and is often found growing in parks and wasteland and along roads, railways and waterways.
Unsightly weeds make a company premises look scruffy, but can harbor pests such as mice and rats, create a fire hazard, snag rubbish and litter and cause damage to hard standing, paved areas and tarmac. The control of moss and algae on walkways is very important, the surfaces becomes very slippery and clearly presents a potential slip hazard.
The biggest killer of plants after they have been planted is neglect. Weeds compete for water and nutrients and restrict the plants growth it is therefore essential that ground be kept weed free. All our staff are correctly trained to ensure the highest standards of workmanship whilst undertaking safe and effective chemical applications.
What is Japanese Knotweed and how do you identify this rapidly spreading, destructive plant in your garden this summer?. Although rather attractive, Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is a strong growing, destructive plant that spreads rapidly. In winter the plant dies back beneath ground but by early summer the bamboo-like stems shoot to over 2.1m (7ft),.
