Swarbrick Associates are a well established architectural practice based in Carlisle, led by principle David Swarbrick. Our work covers a wide range of building types and scales. Recent and current projects include education, cultural, community, office & commercial, mixed-use regeneration, masterplanning, residential and urban design.
All provide high quality and sustainable environments for their users, offer good value for money within agreed budgets and make a positive contribution to their varying contexts. We are experienced in working closely with our clients, and welcome that close dialogue between Architect and Client which is such an important part of the best design solutions.
Much of our work is carried out in sensitive locations and often in urban Conservation areas. We are conscious of the energy and natural resources used in the making and running of buildings and always seek to minimise both. We address issues of inclusion in terms of access, comfort, and confidence which we find are relevant to most buildings and to a wide range of users.

Services
Our works with English Heritage at Carlisle Castle extend over many years. Major projects include the rebuilding of the half- moon battery with guarding and access facilities sensitive to the location and throughout the site. Ongoing projects include the militia store and refurbishments of the museum.
Our first commission was awarded following a competition win to provide a full remodelling and refurbishment of the Fine Arts Department at the Caldewgate annexe. A new central facilities block was provided to rationalise the space planning and improve access. Internal mezzanine floors almost doubled the student floor space.
