The average radiator works at approximately 80 degrees centigrade convecting the heat upwards and outwards into the room, heating the area closest to the radiator most leaving other parts of the room further away from the heat source much cooler. Heat flow can be affected by furniture, shielding the heat from the rest of the room forcing it up towards the ceiling.
