Graham Ikin
Graham Ikin designs and makes his stylish contemporary furniture at his home and workshop in the Cotswolds. He believes that the involvement of the client in the creative process results in the design of unique pieces of furniture which meet individual needs and are enjoyed for years to come.
The care that he takes is evident in the subtle features of every commission; a chamfer here, a small inlay there or perhaps a hidden compartment, to lift and differentiate.Every piece is special!
Services
Graham Ikin comes from a long line of artisans and craftsmen with carpenters, boot-makers and artists in his genealogy. So it was no surprise that from an early age he has designed and made furniture from wood. In his teenage years he built three boats of increasing size and complexity and made furniture for himself and his family.
Timber is one of our most precious resources so we take care to buy and use it carefully and waste as little as possible. The gallery pieces, being of more compact dimensions usually make best use of the smaller pieces of wood which would otherwise be burnt All our suppliers trade ethically and ensure that all our wood is from sustainable sources.
Whilst I have indicated guide prices throughout this site, it is not an exact science. By its very nature, bespoke furniture is made for an individual, very often to suit personal taste and a specific location. Seemingly small changes in design or materials can have a large influence on price. It is sometimes the case that the same piece bought at an exhibition or from a Gallery may be a different price.
The Chair is normally reckoned to be the most difficult piece of furniture to design and make. Everything is on show; stresses induced by leaning back on the rear legs must be resisted and there can be no limit on how heavy the sitter is! At the same time most people want slim legs and rails and an elegant appearance.
To choose a console table is to enjoy an indulgence! Their "function" is surely to decorate and enhance rather than provide mere utility. If you really feel the need to justify the cost then it could incorporate a small drawer for your keys - but only if that does not detract from its beauty. Design is limited only by our imagination and your budget.
