Henry Christy returned to England from Constantinople with a sample of looped pile fabric which was new to the Western World. After studying the fabric along with his inventor brother, a machine was created which allowed terry towelling to be produced on a large scale. A year later, the first terry towel was in production and this was shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851.

APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I wish I could award negative stars. I have placed 2 orders on the Christy website for which payments has been taken in full and no order confirmation received. I have phoned and spoke to a lady and been in chats with 2 others. They all said I would get an email update 'shortly'. 3 days later NOTHING. The customer service number now rings and then hangs up and no-one is available to chat. Needless to say my emails are also ignored. I have been left high and dry as the orders were for Christmas presents and I need to get my money back. I am now convinced that this site

I found the website very easy to use, and exceptionally happy with the fantastic discounts on offer! I paid £3.00 for standard delivery and waited, but not for long! I immediately received a confirmation email, then a dispatch email, followed by Hermes confirmation of having my order and the next day telling me they were out for delivery. My towels were delivered in under 24 hours by my friendly and efficient Hermes delivery driver. ( I have never had a problem

One of my top priorities in life is the quality of my sleep. During my recent house move, I unfortunately lost one of my nicer sets, so went to Christy to purchase a new set of pillowcases, duvet cover, fitted sheet, mattress topper, and duvet, which set me back a little over £200.00 - fairly reasonable for good quality bedding.

Placed an order 22nd February and received it OK a few days later. Unfortunately I had to return goods on 2nd March which was received by them on 5th March. I still have not received my refund. I have sent FOUR emails and left a message on answerphone but had no reply. Absolutely appalling company. Never use to be like this having been a loyal customer for many years. Previously always been lovely products and great customer service. Not sure whats happened of late. I would not recommend Christy AVOID!!

Ordered towels 01/03/21 still haven't received them and didn't receive a dispatch email either. Took our money quick enough though! Tried contacting multiple times via email/phone calls and no response. Reporting to Martin Lewis and looking into the Consumers Act as this is fraud. Avoid purchasing from here

Appalling service. I placed an order for Christy towels and paid £147 thirteen days ago. However, I have had no response from them since they received my payment, despite my four emails to their 'customer services' department. Ringing their head office in Stockport is fruitless - unless you want to hear a variety of pre recorded messages in a variety of foreign accents listing their (non-existing) departments.
