Now that we are coming out of lockdown and things are normalising a little more we are happy to say that we can now make garden visits whilst still socially distancing. In the last twenty years I have designed several hundred gardens of all shapes and sizes for a wide range of Clients including residential, commercial and community.
From small courtyard gardens to the development of rural estates, my approach is very hands on and personal. My style of designing is recognised for its truly holistic and inclusive approach where the Client is key. I also specialise in discreet garden lighting designs, planting designs and garden styling.

Having been a guest designer for Beechgrove Garden since 2001, I have been involved in numerous projects and it has been hard to choose which community gardens to show. However the deciding factor simply came down to my ability as a photographer and space so I've chosen one in the hope of doing it some justice!
Kirsty is very professional. She has great insight for garden design and always has ideas that meets what we are looking for. She is very prompt at replying, at arranging site visits and co-ordinating with landscapers/builders. Very easy to get along with, and we could not have got as far as we have without her!

I have used The Garden Design Company for lots of different projects, at my home, over the last seven years... Kirsty's knowledge and ideas are excellent and her friendly, professional service is second to none... We started with a new build house in an overgrown ex agricultural field and we now have a home surrounded by a stunning landscaped garden... I can not recommend Kirsty enough !! x

Kirsty has done several projects for us over the years. She sourced and arranged the plants and shrubs beautifully. They were then planted by her colleague Tom, who has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to gardens,

Kirsty was able to take my design brief (which was minimum in both desired design outcome and detail) and create exactly what I wanted.
The design had to mirror the house which combines Edwardian simplicity with a modern extension. She was firstly able to show me her designs in both 2-D and 3-D so I could visualise the finished product and therefore make amendments before we broke ground.
Along with the creativity of the hard landscaping, Kirsty ran the landscape contractor selection and then worked with them to ensure a smooth implementation.

I first contacted Kirsty after 5 years of pondering what on earth to do with my tired courtyard garden in West End of Aberdeen. It is a small space & I was well aware it was easy to get any design very wrong given the dimensions of the garden

I asked the Garden Design Co. to advise upon and plan the location for a new bespoke greenhouse and surrounding flower beds.
It was a difficult site on a fairly steep slope and the subsequent design by Kirsty Mclean, the execution by her contractor, Landform Ltd., and the end result were absolutely excellent, perfectly fitted the location and totally met my aspirations.
I found working with Kirsty extremely rewarding. She is creative, knowledgeable and professional and I am able to recommend her work to anyone looking for a new garden to be created.
