Pollarding is an ancient and extreme form for reducing a tree, with the entire head or crown being removed. Crown Lifting is a method used to remove the lower over hanging branches allowing access for mowing, mulching and reducing the shade cast by the tree. Often these branches can cause damage to shed and garage roofs if left in situ.
As a tree ages it naturally produces dead or dying wood. During the deadwooding process, we remove both the dead, dying and diseased branches on the tree. This allows the area known as the impact area, directly beneath the tree, to be made safe from falling limbs. While this work is being carried out, it may also be necessary to Crown Reduce the tree to allow for the future growth of new limbs, reducing the main crown by up to 30%.
Trees can be removed in many different ways. The simplest method is to straight fell the tree however this requires adequate space in order to do so. Dismantling a tree is more common in the urban environment, on a site where space is an issue or there are buildings underneath such as greenhouses, roofs, sheds, etc.
It is important that we plan tree felling very carefully. Trees must be felled safely and in the direction that they need to fall. Well planned felling improves productivity. The factor first and foremost affecting tree felling is whether there are major obstacles in the area, such as overhead lines, underground services, roads and buildings.
Following on from the removal of a tree, the stump often needs reducing further to below ground level. We are able to do this using a Stump Grinder as shown in the pictures below. Stump Removal will allow you to reclaim areas grass or plant a flowerbed, you will totally cover the area that the tree and stump were located previously.

Ken was the first person on my list to phone for quotes to remove a large holly bush and shrubs on a bank above my garden. Ken instantly put me at ease and came to see the job in hand that same day. He spent time to discuss options and gave me a quote there and then. I felt confident he would do a good job and at a very reasonable price. The work was completed the following week. Considering it took me a month to trim and clear the bank last year, Ken and his colleague dug out and removed the holly and scrubs in just over an hour in the baking hot sun. Everything was left clean and tidy. I feel

After a 'drive-by' from the Highways department, three trees on the road at the end of our drive were marked for removal due to 'Ash die-back'. After looking around our local suppliers of tree services I called Ken Hogan. He came over to see us within a couple of days and carried out the job at a good price the following week with all necessary traffic control and tree remains removed. Great job - Thanks a lot Ken!

Wow , I wonder who this guy paid to write all these glowing reviews.... All I know is this , if you hire this guy don't get him in on a weekend as I'm guessing he likes to have a little tipple on a Friday. He turned up to remove a stump in our garden looking like he had slept rough and had a Jack Daniels shower! I gave him the benefit of the doubt only to find him asleep on the three times I checked up on him!
On the third time , I tried waking him only to be met with a barrage of foul language and for him to storm of to his van never to be seen again. The stump sadly remains in my garden.

We contacted Ken on a Friday morning recently. He arranged to meet up the same day and arrived on time, quickly assessed our needs and suggested some helpful alternatives to our initial proposals. At all times he was knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Having had similar work carried out in the past we were also aware of how competitive his quote was and were happy to agree to it.
The work was carried out by Ken and his team in a very efficient and well thought out manner, working well with other trades on site. He left the site clean and tidy with all the work carried as quoted to a high

We have used Ken several times over the past two years for jobs of many sizes. His knowledge of tree care, tidiness in the way he leaves a site, and attention to safety in his working practices are second to none. Most notably, we always feel we have had excellent value for money. Where many tradesmen would just go home if they finish a job quicker than expected, Ken will offer to do extra things to fill his time. Excellent team and highly recommended.

We have recently used Ken and his mate to fell a cypress tree. The job was carried out efficiently and safely. All branches were chipped and taken away and the trunk was chopped up as logs for us as requested leaving the area tidy. We have used Ken Hogan Tree Services before and they are good value for money.
