Here at MJ Cabinetmakers we believe the beauty of a piece of furniture first begins in the inspiration and design and is then followed through in the quality of the making. Matt Jardine and his team of Cabinet Makers aim to create furniture that is functional as well as beautiful. Contemporary design is married with traditional methods of making, to produce furniture that will stand the test of time.
Our site is full of examples of our work. There is nothing more satisfying than meeting a customer and listening to their practical needs and ideas for a piece of furniture. We then go away and interpret all their requirements and design a piece which is unique and functional as well as being a beautiful piece of furniture.
The customer is always kept updated as to the progress of their piece and quite often if they are local they will call in at the workshop at different stages of the making process to see how it is going.

My love for wood began early in my childhood when I used to whittle sticks. I always dreamed of one day designing and making furniture. I left school at the age of sixteen, completed a joinery apprenticeship and then worked for a local Cabinetmaker. I now employ a team including full time makers, apprentices and finishers.
There is something special about being involved in the design of a piece of furniture for your home. Seeing the process of making from the selection of timber to the final coat of finish, followed by the years of enjoyment that piece brings, is very satisfying. Commissioning a piece of furniture from MJ Cabinetmakers is straightforward and begins with the sharing of ideas.
We mainly source timber locally and work with Cumbrian hardwoods like Ash, Oak, Elm, Sycamore and Cherry. We managed to safely transport the coffee table home and are happy to report just how lovely it looks and how well it suits our lounge. We are absolutely delighted with the style and workmanship.
Some churches have been renovated and require contemporary designs whilst others need work that is complimentary to the existing woodwork and architecture. On some occasions we are asked to remove existing pews and rework them into other useful pieces of furniture that can be used in the church such as bookcases and lecterns.
