With a deep-rooted history of cabinet making running through his veins, it was predetermined that Phil should continue this long held tradition. His early days were spent on the family farm in East Sussex. This is where he learned his craft, working closely alongside his siblings, all of them designing and making furniture to sell at local fairs and shows.
Way back in the summer of 1989 Philip Harrison and Louise Pope teamed up to design and make furniture. Their workshop was then based in an old run-down Welsh chapel situated high up in the mountains of Mid Wales. Philip from a background of very traditional cabinet making and furniture restoration and Louise with an Art degree and a passion for wood carving.
Creating a balance of fitted and freestanding kitchen furniture is the success to a great layout and design. Whether it's an island cabinet, larder cupboard or dresser; choosing to have a couple of hand painted freestanding kitchen units can often help to break up the linear look of the kitchen design.
Starting your kitchen project is a very exciting thing, but sometimes it can also be a little daunting. With over 30 years of experience in the industry we can handhold you all the way, gently guiding and supporting you through the whole process, right from the very outset through to the final and finishing touches.
We have come a long way over the last 30 years, and this has invariably involved a considerable amount of trial and error. Perfecting processes and making careful choices is a huge part of this journey. Every element and aspect of our work from the initial design and the construction methods through to the fine materials we use are a result of these many years of knowledge.

Harrison & Pope were approachable, friendly and very professional, right from our first meeting in their showroom to the final sign-off after installation. We were able to have a significant input into the design, always relying on their ability to create the kitchen that we had envisaged. We needed a kitchen for our brand new barn conversion, to be used initially as a holiday let, but potentially would be lived in by family into the future. We therefore wanted something that would stand the test of time, but would be easy to keep clean and not become outdated. From the first time I met Phil at the H&P showroom in Hay, his attention to detail, practical suggestions, and creative input were spot on. We had always admired the Harrison and Pope kitchen studio in Hay on Wye, so when we took on the restoration of a country house there was only one place that we wanted to design and make the kitchen. Lou and Phil have a vast amount of knowledge and design experience. The meetings were held at their larger showroom in Herefordshire. The whole… process was very efficient from start to finish. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The final result was that the kitchen is everything we dreamed it would be, with outstanding craftsmanship and impeccable design. We are absolutely delighted with our Harrison & Pope kitchen which is not only highly functional but also provides a combination of traditional and contemporary design. We are delighted with our Harrison and Pope kitchen; it has transformed our house. We were lucky to have a large underused room to convert from scratch and needed Phil’s design skills to make the most of our new found space. We started the design in the shop in Hay on Wye and then he visited us to look at the room and revise in light of our discussions. We had a computerised mock up to look at and think about, which was so helpful. The finished result is even better than we expected; we were unsure about using so many drawers rather than cupboards, but this works so well – we can actually find

We cannot recommend Harrison and Pope more highly. We chose the company obviously as they are so close, but from Phil's initial visit to the building of the kitchen by their own very competent fitters, we felt they understood exactly what we needed and made some excellent suggestions, which we are so glad we accepted. The final result is… understated and just such a joy to use. The kitchen is greatly admired and I would also add that another company could well have charged double for a similar kitchen. The quality of the workmanship is superb and will doubtless last many years.

Our kitchen was re-done by H&P in Winter 2018. We absolutely love it and cannot fault the professionalism of all of the H&P staff and the quality of the workmanship. The attention to detail, tasteful design and finish of the units is second to none. I can honestly say it was a pleasure having their team in our house and that is something I NEVER thought I would say when completely gutting and re-doing a large kitchen!

From the moment we walked through the door of Harrison & Pope’s showroom in Hay on Wye we knew we had made the right decision to go bespoke. Yes, more expensive than nipping down to our local supplier to by an off-the-peg kitchen, but so worth it. We explained we had a tiny kitchen with hardly a straight line in a 19th century cottage, with an… ancient Rayburn in place. Phil was unphased and immediately brimming with ideas of how we could make the best of the tiny space. His experience shone through and he was clear about what would work and happy to tell us if any of our own ideas

Yet again Phil, Louise and the team from Harrison and Pope have provided me with my dream kitchen. Ten years ago it was a lovely Oak kitchen and utility room. This time a painted kitchen to go into our new Border Oak house. Phil provided help and advice on design listening to what's important for us. Louise helped with colour choices. A extremely friendly and professional team, I would highly recommend.
