Ground water also contains salts that travel up through the bricks and cause white marks to form on the internal wall. This involves drilling holes into the base of the property and injecting a BBA approved damp proof cream into the mortar joint which is absorbed and creates a water repellent barrier as it crystallises.
Condensation is extremely common, particularly during the colder winter months. It occurs when warm water vapour filled air meets a cold surface and condenses leaving behind water droplets. The main causes are insufficient ventilation, inadequate loft insulation and excessive moisture from daily activities such as showering and cooking.
Woodworm is the generic term for a number of beetles that bore into wood. They are usually attracted to damp timber, which is similar to what they would find in their natural habitat, for them to lay their eggs in and feed their larvae. Signs will vary depending on the type of insect involved and the stage of their life-cycle they are at.
Wet rot is a form of timber decay which is caused by fungal growth due to damp conditions. This may be due to water ingress or timbers being in direct contact with damp walls. It can grow anywhere in the property and can cause serious damage to the structural integrity of your property if left untreated.
