Southern Timber has grown quickly from its agricultural origins to become one of the South West's largest independent Timber Merchants. Based next to Ipplepen Business Park, near Newton Abbot, the business is ideally situated to supply timber and associated building products in Devon & Cornwall. Our range of products has expanded along with the business.
We provide estimates every day of the week. Many can be done over the phone but others require more calculations, or we need to check availabilty and prices of your requirements with several mills or importers. The more information you can provide on what you want and dimensions makes it easier for us to provide you with a price and some ideas.
Not every project is the same. A gateway, a porch or a doorway might need a few pieces of oak, Douglas fir or larch cutting to size. In some instances an architect may design a garden office that relies on sections of green oak from the framing. New builds and extensions increasingly seem to specify unusual profiles or timbers that just can't be bought off the shelf.
Whenever we have a vacancy it will be listed here along with a downloadable Application Form. I placed a order for 2 planks of pine, to replace very old floor boards,
The boards arrived on the day requested and all is good with the boards.
Only reason I've only given 4 stars is, I was waiting inside for delivery, and the doorbell never rang, so the boards were left outside,. It would have been good to know the were there so I could get on with the job. I would order again,.

Terrible, requested a quote, after a week of emails asking for a delivery date finally told "can't deliver until next week" so two journeys to collect, told our order has been picked and is ready for us then as we arrive, it hasn't been picked, overcharged £200 from quoted price.

Not really bad. But not good neither. Ordered on Wednesday afternoon, small order. On Thursday while chatting asked if any chance for Friday delivery, I was told fully loaded, that's absolutely fair, I wasn't in rush anyway, it was just question in between other things, I was told it is due for Monday, in case of changes I'll be informed, so perfect for me. Well... wasted all Monday. I was respecting their time. Looks like they have no respect for my time. I'm not in rush, but my time is valuable too, I could spend my time differently than sitting at the address. When nothing delivered till around

Not sure why this company bothers having such a comprehensive website when they'll only deliver locally. Surely local people could pop in? I live in the center of the country, so was surprised to find delivery wasn't an option. I spent hours on their, very well formatted, website planning out a large project - even tweaking the design to suit timber i could see they supplied. Then called them and they said they have no interest in delivering outside the local area. Maybe they could put a warning on their website to stop people completely wasting their time??

The customer service given by this company is the worst we have ever experienced and isn't even worthy of 1 star. Having visited the timber yard and deciding on our purchase, we then spoke to someone at the customer service desk and told they would come back to us with a quote 2 days later. Having chased them twice, 2 weeks later, still we have heard nothing. If this is the sort of service they provide, I'm not sure they will stay in business. We have now purchased our fencing products from another recommended timber supplier in the same area and in hindsight this couldn't have worked out better
