We are a proud member of Ecotechnicians, a not for profit cooperative of engineers based all over the UK, who focus on higher standards within the industry and particularly the effective use of modulating controls on boilers. The heating industry within the UK has fallen far behind our European counterpart in terms of both standards and the adoption of technology.
Thermal mass is the capacity a material has to absorb, store and release heat, it is directly linked to the specific heat capacity of the material and its size and density. This is not to be confused with insulation values, for example a slab of concrete can be of high thermal mass but not provide a very average to low insulation value, whereas gram for gram mineral fibre insulation the opposite would be true.
Its becoming an ever more increasingly popular question within our industry (well amongst ecotechnicians anyway), and one that has no real right or wrong answer, and they most certainly overlap, but there are some situations where one will outperform the other, It's all about a balance between comfort and efficiency.
There are two issues when you have a system operating at below neutral presure that cause cavitation. 1 is gases that come out of solution creating pockets of air (see Henries Law) and 2 is vapourisation. Both of these are very similar. For this to make sense you will need to learn that the definition of neutral is not the presure half way between the posative side of the pump and the negative.

Adam has recently installed a Honeywell EvoHome system for me. We have a large, 1950s house with solid walls. Adam was very thorough in his survey, recommended where to site the controller for best signal, and even altered the piping to one of the radiators to put the HR92 in an optimum position for reception. As well as this, I had an antiquated setup with the pipes around the boiler and cylinder and with the wiring which Adam reworked whilst reusing as much as possible to keep costs to a minimum. Very impressed with installation of our new condensing boiler; Adam and Patrick extremely professional and nothing too much trouble (even getting rid of all associated rubbish and cleaning up afterwards too). No invasion of personal space, found them both very polite and great fun to be with and extremely informative about how everything works etc.

Adam took on the challenge of improving our hot water system, after a builder left us with a huge mess.
He was not phased by the task and completed the work to a very high standard, always looking after our immediate water needs.
It was a pleasure to meet such a dedicated and experienced tradesman, who you can trust.

Fantastic customer service from start to finish. Jo was very helpful in the office throughout the whole process and Adam was very professional and honest from the quotation process right through to installation. Due to a very busy work load Adam very kindly came to fit my boiler on his day off to ensure he met the deadline we initially agreed. Very pleased with Chapman Plumbing and would highly recommend.

Recently had a piece of work undertaken by Adam at Chapman Plumbing and Heating and I was very impressed with the whole process. The team were able to fit me in at very short notice and at a time to suit me which is usually a struggle with any tradesman.
