Sherman and Young Timber Limited are Timber Merchants located in Wigan and specialise in timber products, sheet materials, hardwoods and bespoke joinery. We're a family-owned company with long-serving staff to provide our customers, both public and trade, with in-depth knowledge on our selection of timber products and building materials.
Our C16 structural graded softwood carcassing is a versatile product, traditionally used for internal structural use (flooring and roofing joists). This cost effective carcassing comes kiln dried with bevelled edges. Graded timber is noted for having a smooth consistent look making it ideal for handling.
Our graded tanalised timber comes pressure treated with green tanalith E. Pressure treatment is the most permanent method around today in preserving timber. Our 10025 treated timber is commonly used for decking facia boards, fence panel repairs and garden edging. Machined out of European white wood and pressure treated with green tanalith E.
Our PAR (planed all round) softwood is a very popular product, it is mostly used for internal decorative use such as shelves or other bespoke furniture projects. This cost-effective redwood comes in a range of lengths, thicknesses, and widths, and can also be planed further upon request to meet your size requirements.
Our Interior Door Casings are supplied in sets made up of three separate pieces, two long side pieces known as the legs for either side of the door, and a shorter piece known as the head for the top of the door. Please note: these casing sets are also available in various depths depending on the width of your wall.

I'm only a seasoned DIY'er and usually get my timber from Haldane Fisher. Decided to give S & Y a try. What a game changer. As soon as I got there the counter assistant was super helpful, helping me tweak my timber sizes for my project. He then over-sized and trimmed to EXACT size! Very competitive pricing too, comparable to HF.

Top raterd timber yard. Comparative prices and quantity and quality that is often hard to find these days. Excellent staff who make the effort to help and sort orders out.... good advice given to questions. Orders can be cut or planed to any size requirements. Can't keep the wife away for all the little and big projects that she does :-)

I recently used Sherman Young for a small job I had at home,
The staff there were fantastic & I was delt with by a bloke called Les.
Les had great knowledge about the timber I needed and also cut the timber to the lengths that I required.
The pricing was very competitive and a lot cheaper than a lot of other local places.
I would not hesitate in recommending them.
