Linda Dawson Architect
The built environment surrounding us subtly influences the quality of our well being. The way we interact between spaces varies from person to person therefore each of our projects is a bespoke solution tailored for that individual or family. We have completed home renovations, attic conversions and extensions across Edinburgh, East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and as far as Northern Ireland.

We have a wealth of experience working within conservation areas and have a clear understanding of the constraints and opportunities created when integrating contemporary designs and high quality materials with the fabric of the period buildings. Through imaginative problem solving and careful consideration of all technical aspects of the building process, we can guide a client from the initial conception to completion.
Services
Linda Dawson Architect was formed in 2009 following ten years working as an in-house architect for the award winning architectural practices, Malcolm Fraser Architects, Edinburgh, Conran and Partners, London and RMJM Scotland Ltd. We enjoy the experience of working closely with our clients to produce well crafted buildings whilst ultimately respecting their aspirations and budget.
If the project is for an extension or renovation we prefer to meet at the client's house. This not only helps us to get to know each other but also gives us an idea of how the family or individuals interact and use the spaces. At this stage we are not officially appointed and we're there just to see what is involved in the project and get an idea of the amount of work required on my part so that we can provide a fee quotation for our services.
If you alter the appearance of the outside of a building (or the inside if your house is listed) you may require Planning permission. There are a number of rules to follow and I can advise on these. Generally if the development is within a conservation area it will need Planning Permission and possibly Conservation area consent if it involves demolition, however there are some exceptions, so it is worth taking further advice.
