Victorian Ceramics brings together over 50 years of experience in tile design and glaze colour research. It is a family business, owned and run by Paula and David Franklin, based in the rural English county of Shropshire, close to Ironbridge and the Welsh border. We offer a full personal design service from the creation of a modest single plain colour through to an ambitious tiling scheme, private and commercial alike.
The life of the tile begins weeks before decoration. A blend of kaolin and china clay is used to create the Victorian tile on a fly-wheel press. The tiles produced have the same sharp square edge that made the originals so distinctive. Once released, the tiles are placed onto wooden boards to dry before being biscuit fired to 1060°C in cranks.
Crazing normal feature of original Victorian glazes. It is a gradual process with some colours crazing straight from the kiln and some taking weeks to develop. You may hear the tile 'ping' as this happens. This is a normal feature of these glazes and part of their charm. Craze lines aren't cracks in the tile and won't affect the integrity of the tiles or their use.
Victorian Ceramics uses traditional decorating techniques and original authentic designs to bring you this impressive collection of tile designs. These timeless designs have endured the test of time allowing you to create the perfect finishing detail to any period interior, restoration project or contemporary interior.

I can't recommend Victorian Ceramics enough. From sending out samples to design advice and a last minute scramble for extra tiles, David really went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed for a tricky job. The quality of the tiles and glazing is superb and has made our Victorian fireplace shine again -- if you're looking for excellent craftsmanship and fantastic customer service look no further!
