Services
Norwich-based Howie Architects is a small, friendly practice, headed up by Alastair Howie. Alastair has more than 30 years' experience as an architect and has worked across a range of sectors, including domestic, commercial and retail. His hands-on approach to every single job, no matter what the size or budget, means he can often take on projects where larger practices are unable to.
We can advise you on whether planning permission is required for your particular project. If you decide to go ahead then planning submission and liaison with the local authority department or relevant organisation is part of the service we offer. Certain types of development and extension which comply with particular conditions are "deemed consent" and therefore do not require full planning permission.
Converting a building to become your home gives the opportunity to create a unique end result that reflects the character and previous use of the original building. Under-used space like a loft, garage or a cellar can be converted to create added habitable areas in the main home as a study, games room, cinema room, gym or simply an added bedroom and en suite.

I'd set out to buy a barn conversion & ended up with a 1980's bungalow & ideas to transform it into a very modern 'barn style' single storey dwelling. Alastair not only understood exactly what I wanted to achieve but shared my enthusiasm for the project. His plans are imaginative & innovative & he has come up with a design which maximises the available space to realise my vision of a light, bright family home. I would have no hesitation in recommending Alastair & Howie Architects.

It was great to wok with Alastair on our project in Norfolk.
We had quite a lot of ideas! Alastair listened to everything and translated them into a design that ticked all our boxes.
Alastair held our hands through the design process and really offered fantastic advice and ideas throughout the project.

We had met and spoken to a few architects but couldn't find one we were comfortable with. Alastair has been brilliant. Firstly he took our vision for what we wanted and came up with brilliant plans which we have now agreed, and secondly we have been away for a couple of weeks and he promised that he would send everything in for planning. We didn't need to chase, we got an email whilst away to say he had done it and his care with clients is second to none. The project needs to be approved and assuming all goes to plan we will look to engage him with building regs.
