Services
Bates Timber Merchants was founded in 1992 by Peter Bates and his father John. Peter now has sole charge of the business since his father's retirement in 2005 and the business is managed by both Peter Bates and Gavin Allen, who between them have over 60 years experience in the timber trade. The management team are supported by Suzanna Aris, the Company Secretary, who runs the financial side of the business and who is also involved in sales.
Decking is an excellent way for you to make the most of your garden. We hold large stocks of treated softwood decking, joists and balustrade ready to be delivered to you very quickly. We stock at least six different lengths of decking, ensuring that whatever size you want your deck to be, you won't be paying for lots of waste.
We keep a large stock of sheet materials, such as plywood, in both hardwood and softwood grades, MDF and hardboard. If you require any sheet materials cut to size, we can offer an excellent cutting service. This year we have installed a specialist sheet material saw to cut your order to size accurately and quickly.
We offer a bespoke machining service in our own mill. With a large selection of cutting proles for machining timber, we will try our very best to match your own prole or pattern, without having to have cutters made. If we do not have the prole you require then an exact match can be obtained by having cutters made especially for you at an extra cost.
Bates Timber Merchants are stockists of Cheshire Mouldings stairparts and mouldings. Off-the-shelf we have the stairparts in stock and we are able to supply anything from their extensive range at trade prices and prompt delivery services. Great service! I called up Bates with clueless concept of building decking in my garden, I gave a chap called Gavin measurements and within 10 mins he gave me a price and organised exactly how much timber I needed and low and behold everything gets delivered I've built my decking with a little over what I needed. Perfect service and great quality product! If I could give 6 Stars I would!!

I have found these guys about 10 years ago for some big projects I was working on at home and at that time the customer service was great and continued to use them for other projects. I had not used them for about 3 years (no projects to speak of) and all I can say is it still fantastic service and Elliot was a top man sorting out my order - I would recommend them 100% of the time, All of the time.

I went to Bates for some decking. Let me start off by saying the staff is amazing. Very helpful and polite. Pete helped me to sort out the decking and delivery times.
We specifically asked to have them go to our neighbors who let them on our property because we were away. They did that and even stacked the decking in our back garden. Top notch company.
Even asking questions about the decking oil and how long to wait to treat it. They were patient with me the whole time.
I highly recommend Bates.
