Shs Burridge Architects
Based in Edinburgh, we provide a personal service to our clients locally and throughout Scotland. From exquisitely detailed small projects to sophisticated modern offices and scientific laboratories, you can trust SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS. ARB registered architects and members of the RIBA and RIAS, working to strict professional codes of conduct, we deliver designs tailored to your specific needs.

Our work is contemporary, characterised by light spaces, natural materials and a conscientious approach to sustainability. With more than 25 years of experience, we are adept at dealing with challenging planning and site contexts and resolving complex issues. Projects can be daunting, complex and bureaucratic but, from inception to completion, we can guide you through the process, taking the strain and turning ideas into realities.
Services
Andrew has been delivering projects for over 30 years. With his own practice since 1995, he has specialised in residential buildings and commercial fit-out projects. Andrew has a special interest in sustainable design, particularly energy-efficient houses. He has won a number of awards for his designs and his Flower House was built as one of the exemplars sustainable at Scotland's Housing Expo in 2010.
SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS will check whether you need to Planning Permission or other Statutory Approvals. We will then prepare and submit the applications and guide them through the process. You don't always need Planning Permission for some small building works that don't impact on the surrounding area.
To get a building warrant, SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS will prepare the necessary drawings for you following the Building Regulations and apply to your local council's building standards department. Once SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS have submitted your application, building standards will assess it to see whether it complies with building standards and issue an initial technical response.
Your building is Listed if it is of 'special' architectural or historical interest and as a consequence, receives protection under planning legislation. SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS can have a personal conversation with you and advise if your property is Listed and what this means. It's a criminal offense to demolish, alter materially, or extend a listed building without Listed Building Consent.
You can move house to gain that extra space and pay for estate agent, pay for a property survey, pay for conveyancing, an EPC, the valuation fee, removal costs, postal redirection and stamp duty on top of the purchase price of the larger house. Or you can stay at home and build your dream. When SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS design your new extension, we help you reconfigure your home to fit the way you live.

Fantastic to work with, very professional, clear communication, and prompt with work. We are getting new balcony doors knocked through and new mezzanine put in. Andrew drew up the plans and handled the application process. Would highly recommend and use again in if we have future projects.

I contacted SHS to ask about a quote for getting a building warrant. Spoke with Andrew who, after some questions about the work, confirmed I did not require a building warrant. I really appreciate this company's honesty and advice rather than wanting to charge me for nothing. Will definitely use these guys if I need actual work in the future!

I confirm what others have previously indicated. Andrew has been really nice to answer all my questions in a professional and knowledgable way. I might not need his services in the near future but will keep his contact details for any other works or just friend's recommendations.

Andrew designed our kitchen and helped us get the completion certificate for it several years after, when the warrant had expired. We couldn't have done it without him. And at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended.

Andrew Burridge has worked very effectively on a piece of work that whilst not glamorous, is very important, in fact essential. The setting is a Heritage England Grade 1* ancient monument - which in itself provides huge challenges.
Andrew has so far, guided myself and my project partner, through what has been a mountain of paperwork, but he has communicated all very clearly, thanks in part to an approachable, gentle manner.
Most importantly, Andrew has never diminished the importance of our work, a small but complex project. Andrew.

Many thanks to a+j burridge for some interesting and imaginative ways of making the best use of small spaces in old houses. I was also grateful for the close and careful supervision of the work involved. The two projects Andrew Burridge undertook have proved a great success.
