Mda
Founded by Maria Demargne, MDA designs bespoke and carefully considered homes in West London. MDA is passionate about creating beautiful, naturally lit spaces that meet the demands of modern living while being mindful of their environmental impact. Over the years we have gained valuable experience dealing with projects in conservation areas and Grade II listed buildings.

We bring a modern and sensitive design approach, tailored to suit different personal and building contexts, budgets and timescales. We handle all project stages from initial brief to completion, including planning, complete detailed design service, project management and construction supervision. We also offer a range of consultancy services.

Maria Demargne graduated from E.T.S.A.B. Barcelona in 1997. After completing a Master's degree in Environmental Design in Architecture at the Martin Centre, University of Cambridge, she worked at NRA architects (now NRAP) on residential and University buildings.

The brief was to replace en existing extension by a larger open plan kitchen and dining area with a strong connection with the garden and family sitting room. The clients were after a comfortable and durable design to be enjoyed for many years. The result is a fresh and contemporary design, easy to use and maintain that balances comfort, energy efficiency and respects the character and features of the original building.
MDA carried out a full renovation and extension and converted a four-storey Victorian semi-detached two dwelling building into a single home in a conservation area. This encompassed a multi-level extension and conversion of attic and lower ground floor spaces, converting the building back into a single family home.
MDA was approached to work on an ambitious home extension, both at ground and attic level, for an end-of-terrace Edwardian house. Central to the success of our concept was to free up the internal space. We achieved this by inverting the internal circulation space; moving the main access and circulation to the newly-designed side extension.
MDA were briefed to create a fun, informal and versatile ground floor extension to enjoy with family and friends. Working together with the client we sourced a rich and varied palette of materials and textures: brick walls, exposed steels, polished concrete and reclaimed hardwood from old primary school furniture.
This Edwardian detached property provided the opportunity for a large development at the rear whilst retaining the original details and features of the front elevation. MDA designed a deep extension at ground floor level, with additional extensions on the first and second floors. The challenge with deep extensions is to ensure natural light reaches the core of the house.
