Services
We start the process by getting an understanding of your requirements and aspirations for the project, together with information about the site. This enables us to put together a brief and to look at any opportunities and constraints that might exist in relation to this. We make an initial visit to the site and meet with the client to obtain a detailed understanding of their requirements.
Mass Architecture is a partnership founded by Charlotte Harrison and Glen McGowan in London in 2004. They relocated to York in 2009 and now work throughout Yorkshire and the North East. They have won design awards for their work in London and York and have been involved in a wide range of projects with local, regional and national clients.
This is a space for us to report on a range of industry related issues and things happening behind the scenes that we think might be of interest and/or useful to know. If you are thinking about starting a new project then please contact us to arrange a no obligation consultation. When dealing with a new enquiry, we usually ask questions about the location of the site or building i.e. We usually want to visit the property or site, so that we can get the best possible understanding of the context for example, or the character/condition of an existing building.
We recognise that it is important to provide a proactive service when delivering commercial projects. We bring our expertise and experience of design, planning and project management to each project to ensure it runs smoothly. Often commercial projects require what we call a 'Design Team'. The team includes cost consultants, engineers and sometimes specialists that produce information to enable the project to move forward.

Charlotte and her team are a pleasure to work with and brought genuine flair and creativity to our renovation. Unlike other architects we have worked with, Charlotte was not only focussed on the design credentials of the build, she was also incredibly helpful in ensuring the budget was considered alongside all decisions. Working with Mass Architecture on the refurbishment project for our Research Centre at the University of York has been a pleasure. Charlotte really engaged with our dual brief to create both interactive areas and quiet zones for individual working. Throughout the project we were assured of regular updates, honest feedback and personal attention. Charlotte and Team Mass Architecture were great to work with on what was a large project for us on our home. They were CREATIVE which was what we were really looking for and SUPER RELIABLE.
