The year is 1903 and businessman Thomas Lee is taking to his summer retreat in the lakeside town of Westport, in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Needing outdoor chairs for his large family, Lee experimented with a simple wooden plank construction - and the Adirondack Chair (initially 'Westport Chair) was born.
