The vast majority of our work involves trees, whether it be tree surgery, felling, planting or hedge maintenance. We are familiar with the laws regarding Tree Preservation order's and trees in Conservation Areas. Should you require any assistance on these matters, please get in touch. Should you wish, we can fill in any relevant forms, and apply for tree works on your behalf.

We also have a duty to check for nesting birds. During the nesting season (generally March to August) we always carry out a visual inspection for signs of nesting birds. Should an active nest be found, the job is postponed until the nest is empty. Where possible, wood products are recycled by the producing of woodchips which can be used as a mulch.

Larger wood is used for logs, and supplied throughout the dales. Quality lengths of wood can be milled for use in the furniture trade. Smaller pieces, where suitable are used as blanks for the woodturning profession. As well as trees we also undertake other horticultural work (see Fences and Walls for further details).
Services
The owner, David Allen has been working with trees since 1985. Firstly with EFG (Economic Forestry Group) for six years, then undertaking a one year, full time NC in Arboriculture at Myerscough College, Lancashire. This was followed by a two year full time HND in Arboriculture at Houghall College Durham.
At Wensleydale Tree & Horticultural Services Ltd you will find little mention of 'lopping and topping. Both these words were and still are used in tree surgery today. They are however, outdated practice. In most instances there is an alternative, resulting in a better looking tree. Once the alternatives are explained, most people are happy with the finished appearance of the tree.
Wensleydale Tree & Horticultural Services Ltd offer a professional hedge trimming service. Many clients use our services annually to keep their hedges looking great. Hedges are usually trimmed once a year in late summer/early autumn. This has the advantage that the hedge looks at it's best until growth starts the following year.
Should you require a single ornamental tree or a native woodland, then give us a call. Advice about tree and hedge planting, together with grant availability is only a phone call away. We also supply trees, shrubs and protective tubes/stakes for forestry situations. Tree planting is undertaken on behalf of local estates, landowners and private clients.
