Many modern screeds boast being able to take foot traffic very quickly after just a few days or even hours. However, this is not the time that the screed will be completely dry and ready for a floor finish to be laid. For the majority of quick dry screeds, natural drying time can take up to 60 days (depending on depth of screed and environment).

ForceDry can help. ForceDry has a number of solutions to decrease the time you will need to wait for the screed to dry. If your project has underfloor heating and you are using an anhydrite calcium sulphate screed you have the opportunity to force dry your screed and save a huge amount of time compared to natural drying.

A 50mm screed can be force dried in as little as 21 days using our specialist equipment. Manufacturers recommend force drying not only because it reduces drying times, but it also commissions and conditions screed which thermally prepares the screed ready for the floor finish. This reduces the risk of cracking, warping and de-bonding of the floor finishes.
Services
Flowing screeds dry at 1mm per day for the first 40mm then 0.5mm per day thereafter. 50mm screed would take at least 60 days to dry naturally and would require a further 17 days to complete a Commissioning and Conditioning cycle before the floors can be laid. Manufactures typically calculate drying times based on an air temperature of 20°c with a relative humidity level of 65%, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 60 consecutive days.
This process gradually heats up the screed to the maximum design temperature. This is important to allow the screed to expand and contract in a safe and controlled manner to reduce the risk of thermal shocking. If using an Anhydrite Calcium Sulphate screed, our Force Dry programme completes this process.
High RH is the most common cause of floor failures. When switched on for the first-time underfloor heating begins to warm the screed which causes any moisture still present to find its way to the surface. Any residual moisture within the screed could be released causing lifting, warping and de-bonding of floor finishes.
Weather plays a huge part in working conditions on a construction site. Especially during the colder months when the nights draw in and temperatures drop. Protect your employees, tools and equipment left on site and importantly protect your project and materials from damp, cold and freezing conditions.
The four component parts that make up our extremely effective system can each by hired individually. Powerful dehumidifiers, industrial fans, portable electric boilers and space heaters are all available. Top specification equipment suitable for your construction site. Mounted on wheels they are easily transportable by a single person around a busy construction site or home renovation.
