Rowland Stone
We're the very best in traditional stone masonry and craftsmanship employing the very latest in design and production technology. Having started in business more than 40 years ago we registered as a company in 1987 and haven't looked back since.

We now employ a team of about 30, including a number of Master Craftsmen capable of the highest quality traditional stone carving, and so are able to undertake from the simplest to the most complex of work, from Bristol's new Radisson Hotel to replacing entire sections of a carved monument at Howell's School in Cardiff.

There's far more to stone cleaning than a high-pressure hose for a start it's absolutely vital to understand the stone you're cleaning and to have had experience of how best to achieve the depth of clean required.Conservation is all about minimum invasion, it's about maintaining integrity and being honest to what the original builders intended and what's left of it.

There's far more to stone cleaning than a high-pressure hose; for a start it's absolutely vital to understand the stone you're cleaning and to have had experience of how best to achieve the depth of clean required. Our intention is always to return a surface to being as near to "as new" as is possible.
Instead just take a look at the photographs below. In both cases we were able to take architects drawings and, using our CAD capability, develop these into a fully sectioned and priced proposal for the cladding of these buildings. We've completed a number of new build projects recently, working with both Bath and Portland stone.
We have over 40 years experience in working with every type and kind of stone, so we know what can and cannot be done and the way forward in both cases. We usually work as specialist contractors to architects and main contractors, but the truth is that our level of expertise allows us to be consultants in this field too.
Conservation is all about minimum invasion, it's about maintaining integrity and being honest to what the original builders intended and what's left of it. It's an area in which we have considerable experience, and one that we want to grow. It often comes as a surprise to our clients that we understand conservation to the level of expertise that we offer.
Restoration very often involves stone carving, where the job is not only to replicate what has been damaged or destroyed but to do so using the same stone and, as near as possible, carving technique. Very often actually removing the damaged carving from its position, supporting what's left and then putting into place the new carving, working to the nearest millimetre, is as demanding of our expertise and experience as the carving itself.
