Custom Joinery Windows specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of sash and case windows; ideal for use throughout Edinburgh including conservation areas. Sash and case windows are a traditional feature of the Edinburgh architecture. They first became popular in Scotland in the late seventeenth century.
When it comes to selecting materials for your windows, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a popular choice, and it's not hard to see why. It's strong, long-lasting and resilient yet lightweight, and virtually maintenance-free since it won't warp, flake, rot or need to be painted. Just wipe down with a damp cloth to clean.
Casement windows, or those which are hinged at the side, offer numerous benefits. These windows open fully, for example, making them ideal if size of opening is important to you. They're also difficult to break into, and can channel welcome breezes into a house. Equally, they come in a wide variety of designs, are energy-efficient and easy to open and close.
Having originated in France in the 1600s, French doors remain a popular, versatile choice inside and outside the home. They also create extra privacy and reduce noise from other parts of the house. Not only are there numerous designs to choose from, but the transparent panels in these doors let light flood into your home and create an illusion of space.

Report
We decided on Sash and case windows as they are in keeping with our Edwardian home. Having looked at Moz Murray, Anglian, Jax and all the aluminum faced timber types, Custom Joinery are the best value and have same or better draught proofing.
Unfortunately they did not apply foam sealant around our dormers and the new windows are draughtier than those replaced. It remains to be seen if the proposed fixes work
