Green oak is fresh sawn oak, which means it has been cut, and not seasoned. It will have a lot higher moisture content than kiln dried or air dried oak. Green oak will start to dry out soon after it has been sawn, it will shrink, and the appearance of the oak will change, with cracks and splits occurring. Green oak sleepers can be used for landscaping. Please be aware that fresh sawn oak is liable to move as it dries out, so may not be suitable for some applications.

About Us Report

Welcome to Davies Timber, where our aim is to supply quality timber from our door to your door. The industry and the business slowly grew until fast forward to 1995, when the current owners took over the business. The two new owners bought a wealth of new experience to the company and things started to change.

How to Plan a Deck Report

Before getting started you should be aware, that with even small decking areas, Building Regulations may come in to force. You should contact the local council before you start on your project. Once you have done this you can start your deck. You have probably already decided, where it's going to go, but one tip that we would suggest is, look at your location carefully.

Good timber merchants, better range of stock and quality than at builders merchants, prices good too.
Offcuts of hardwood available, makes fiddly jobs like door sill repairs much more affordable.

Proper traditional wood merchant, no good for regular wood as they deal in commercial lengths but they have a really good offcuts bin and this is an Aladdin's cave of treasure
Helpful staff and considering you are getting massive chunks of oak the prices are ok

Having used this company for many years and no matter how big or small your order was they was always obliging, well it seems those days have long gone. I called last week for a price on some hardwood, price was given and a quote number, I call them today to place the order after working out a price for my customer over the weekend who the Hardwood is for, I also needed to add on some extra pieces of different sized Hardwood for the same customer only to be told by John (who is the most unhelpful person you could wish to get on the other end of the phone) that they can't help me with the additional

Always a slick operation and friendly, helpful staff. 10 out 10 to 'Craig' who helped me in the car park cover the wood sticking out of my car window from the rain. Very pleasant young man. Also noticed I was blocked in by a van and sorted my exit. Massive choice of stock, awesome.

Picked up some sleepers and plywood. Found the sleeper prices much the same as everywhere else but the plywood was cheaper. All staff friendly and helpful. Parking not a problem. I would definitely recommend Davies timber.
